River laughed and put her own hands around his wrists to act as cuffs. "Yes, you're in literary jail forever and ever--it's called living with me. Just by osmosis, you're going to get more literature references in your brain than you ever dreamed you'd know." She shook his hands back and forth for emphasis, then let them fall as she laughed again.
"Not really, though. I kinda figured you didn't, just because most people don't. There are so many figures of speech that come from Shakespeare that you would never even realize until someone told you. Like...let's see. Killing someone with kindness, wearing your heart on your sleeve, dead as a doornail...they're all from Shakespeare, originally. And now they're just everywhere."

Penn chuckled as she 'cuffed him' and when she let him go again he ran is hands down her sides, against her ribs. "Oh really? Interesting. I had no idea." He said with genuine interest. "So who is your literary hero? Do you have a favorite author...or playwrite?" He asked her as his hands rested on her hips, his thumb rubbing across the top edge of her skirt where it met her shirt and feeling her hip bone beneath it.

River squirmed just a little as his fingers ran over the ticklish spot just above her natural waist, leaving her thankful that he asked a serious question so she could focus on that instead. Otherwise, his hands would be extremely distracting.
"You know, I don't think I have one favorite? She answered, thoughtful at first, but gaining enthusiasm as she spoke. "I always say the Odyssey is my favorite book when people ask, but I love a lot more than that. Right now I'm really enjoying Madeline Miller and Margaret Atwood; both of them did retellings of old epics from the point of view of secondary characters instead. So like, I'm guessing you know a little about the Odyssey--or at least that it's about a guy named Odysseus. Well, Margaret Atwood told the story of what happened to his wife, Penelope, while he was gone for years on his adventures. And Madeline Miller wrote about the witch he meets, Circe--which is actually pronounced Kirke, but no one says that--and it's just, ugh, so amazing. I think that might be my new favorite. Maybe I should re-read it..."

"Oh that's fun! I love when authors do stuff like that. It's fun in movies too. I'd love to read both of those. Maybe that'll be my first book that I read on our balcony." He said with a smile.
"Okay, so the Odyssey is a very adventurous book. Would you consider yourself an adventurous person or do you live through the books you read? I mean, you're here. That's pretty adventurous."

River wrinkled her nose. "No," she blurted immediately, but then she frowned and sat back a little, her eyes drifting to the ceiling as she considered it. "You know what, you might be right. I never thought of myself as adventurous, but I did go live on campus during my undergrad just so that I would make myself have the experience of living away from home. And this has been quite the adventure, too. I was scared, but I decided it was worth the risk..." She pursed her lips.
"I'd like to be more adventurous, I think...like, in the sense of traveling and trying new things. But I never wanted to do that by myself. I need a little support. Liiiike maybe a valiant knight who will make me laugh and forget that I was ever worried?" She smiled and leaned down to give him a little kiss. "I think we're probably going to be going on our next adventure together, pretty soon. I'm betting it'll be a first for me, seeing as I've never been out of the state."

She looked so cute as she realized that maybe she was more adventurous than she had originally thought. "I'll always be here to support you and together we'll do very exciting things." He said, kissing her back.
For a moment he thought she was talking about a whole different kind of first adventure, but when she mentioned having never been out of state he found himself corrected and he smiled. He was about to reply when there was a knock at the door to tell them it was time to go.
"I guess it's time for that adventure there, my love." He said, swooping in for another kiss before they started to get ready to leave.

River jumped when someone knocked on the door, but she smiled into the quick kiss that Penn snuck before letting her get up. She loved hearing him call her 'my love,' it made her heart do a little somersault. She grabbed her scrunchie and slipped it onto her wrist, swung her sweater back onto her arms while putting on her flats which was quite a feat, and hurried to grab her suitcase, beaming all the while.
"I can't wait! We're going to have an amazing time," she gushed as they headed for the door, "I'm hardly even nervous!"
