You arrived yesterday and met all of your suite mates. Today is your first day of dates! This morning your phones were all taken from you and will be returned either when you go home or at the start of stage 3! No social media, no contact with the outside world, just a chance for you to focus on your connections with other people here. (You were told this would be the case when you first signed up to be a participant)
The first round of dates will be relatively quick. You'll get a chance to meet all the ladies/gents. The first dates will last about 10-20 minutes (IC) and the purpose is a short little getting to know you.
Here are some topics you might consider talking about (though it's TOTALLY up to you):
General lifestyle (partier/works a lot/spends most time at home alone)
Occupation
Hopes for this event/what you're looking for in a spouse
Hobbies/Passions

The voice that sounded from Gem’s side of the glass was a little shaky.
“Hello over there!” Nervous chuckle. “I’m Gemini Matteson. I go by Gem. Call me Gem. I’m twenty-nine. An accountant. I have two brothers...tell me when to stop talking.” More nervous laughter.

"Hi Gem." Penn replied with a kind smile in his voice. "Hey, I'm nervous too." he said, his voice getting clearer as he moved towards the wall between them and put his hands on it. "Let's just decide that since we're both feeling the same that neither of us need to feel nervous?" He suggested.
"I'm Hugh Pennington, basically everyone calls me Penn. I'm thirty-four. I have a Masters in Computer Science and work as a Software Developer. I have a brother and a sister and I'm originally from Montana until I went to college here in San Diego. I've been here ever since."
He didn't move away from the wall. "So...what do you normally like to do to relax?" He asked her warmly.

Gem stood from where she was sitting as she saw his shadow close in on the glass. She decided to do the same and stepped up to it, placing her hands where his was.
"I can work with that." She said softly. After he gave his introduction, she murmured, "Impressive." At his question, she responded, "I love to be at home. Sweat pants. An over-sized sweater. Honeyed tea. A good book, or a good show. I feel most relaxed when I feel safest, and I feel safest in my home. Oh, and I'm an accountant. I should probably ask you a good question in return. Like...what matters most to you in a potential spouse? And, of course, answer the same question you asked me."

Penn smiled as he saw her shadow on the other side of the glass wall. "This is the closest I've been to anyone so far today." He said, his voice soft since she was so near.
"Honestly that sounds so perfect. My most relaxing place is at home too. I keep imagining my life when I'm married, sitting together in comfy clothes, not feeling the pressure to look perfect and put together, just being ourselves, playing footsie while we watch tv or read books next to each other... it sounds so peaceful." He said in a dreamy tone.
"I don't need anything extravagant, just someone who wants to share life together and be ourselves. I hope to find someone who can be her own person and will be understanding when I get swamped at work and can't always be right there, but who will still miss me when I'm gone."

Penn chuckled in response. "Do I?" He asked with a laugh. "Uh, no catch that I'm aware of. Let's see...I'm a gamer, I guess that could be a catch. But I work in the field so maybe I get a pass for that?" He said with a little chuckle. "Also, I'm terrified of birds. Maybe that counts as a catch?" He said lightly.
"So, how about your family? Are you close with your family?" He asked.

"Huh." Was all Gemini said when he spoke of his potential catches. Then, "My family? Yes and no. I'm close to my brothers. They're the reason I'm here, actually. Not so much my parents. They...our relationship has always been strained. But I love my brothers. They're my family. How about you?"

"Your brother encouraged you to come?" He asked curiously. "Ya, we're pretty close, personally not physically. I grew up in Montana and all of my family is still there. I have an up and down relationship with my older brother but otherwise we all get a long and all that." He said.
"So your name, Gemini, that's pretty unique, very pretty too. Do your siblings have star names as well or just you?" He asked.

"So...yes, ashamed as I am to admit it. Their names are, waiting for it, Aries and Leo. I'm pretty sure my father was drunk when we were born. But my brothers are really great. I grew up looking out for them, and now that we're all adults, they look out for me. And I go by Gem. Pretty strictly." Short laugh. "Can I ask about the nature of this up and down relationship with your brother?"

"Aw, don't be ashamed. They're great names, even if a bit unique. And don't worry, I hereby swear to only ever call you Gem." He said with a smile in his tone and the soft thump of his hand against his chest as he swore.
"Oh, ya, we've always kind of butted heads growing up. It's not a big thing, we just never really got along. I was the nerdy kid who liked to play video games and he was the sports star, prom King, popular guy. He wanted me to be...better I guess and I thought he was proud and vain. He ended up becoming a pretty well to do lawyer and I went into software development. We're just...different. It causes some tension, but we haven't disowned each other yet."
"So matters to you in a spouse? I never returned that question." He asked.

I want...” she paused, then was quieter. “I want a man who won’t hurt me. I want someone reliable. Consistent. I don’t need to be coddled, and I don’t think I’m demanding. I just want a good guy.”

"I think that's a really healthy perspective." Penn said with a smile in his voice. "Let's see, my wildest dream. Hmmm. You know I haven't traveled much in my life yet. I would like to have the money to be able to take a big trip, something like six months, maybe even a year, and travel around the world." he paused, his fingers moving against the shadow of hers through the glass.

But now...I guess I dream of a life that isn’t so lonely.” Pause. “I know how pathetic that sounds. Maybe I am. Penn chuckled softly. "No I do not, actually. I've seen plenty of people in my lifetime of people who I don't think deserve to have the things that they want. I may not know all that much about you yet, but I meant what I said." He paused. "And I said what I meant and an elephant's faithful one-hundred percent." he said with a little laugh.
"I hope we get to do this again, Gem." He told her honestly.
