River giggled. "She does sound scary, a little. But it's cute that your mom wants to have fun with all the holidays, too. I guess if that's what it's about, then I don't mind so much. I'm just...not really a good candidate for the picture-perfect family if that makes sense. I get nervous in big gatherings, so honestly, if I were there I'd probably just stick to you like glue the whole time and try not to embarrass you."

"You'll probably be fine, I'd be much more worried about them embarrassing me or scaring you off than anything else," Percy assured her. "I wouldn't really call us picture-perfect, there's a level of instagramable I think, but we're not the typical big southern family. Let's just say I'm usually found hiding in a corner with my hot cocoa and befriending the nearest cat about half the time. Then I come out of the corner, for the picture. It would be nice to having in the corner with me." Percy said with a laugh. "And if you have family that wants to join in on all the fun, well Mom's into that too and will even get extra sweaters."
"Do you have a favorite way to do hot cocoa? I always go for cinnamon sticks and if I can, whipped cream and a cherry on top."

"I'd never turn down a good sweater, but cats and cocoa in the corner sounds like the right place for me," she agreed.
"As for cocoa, I usually add a little bit of vanilla and cinnamon. Whipped cream usually ends up going straight into my mouth and never makes it to the cocoa..." she confessed with a laugh. "But since it's usually just me in the kitchen with the can of rediwhip, no one is ever the wiser."
"What about ice cream, do you have a favorite? I know that's just about the opposite of hot cocoa, but it says a lot about a person, I think."

"I swear I'm not a narcissist when I say most of my sweaters have my name on them, it's that my mom makes family sweaters every single year so I have no reason to buy more, and some years my cats get them too" Percy said with a laugh, "Also the holidays are crazy because my birthday is November 20th, so that's right before all the crazy happens. I think it's just far away enough from Christmas that they don't do that one big gift thing all the time. Oh and I don't fly back to Nashville with seven cats, just two of them."
"I don't know where my sister finds, it but every year she shows up with this espresso flavored whipped cream and it's absolutely amazing," Percy said, "I want to put it on everything, cocoa, waffles, ice cream, straight into my mouth, but of course if I tried that someone in the house would fight me."
"Hmmm I like ice cream in general. Am I boring if I say it's a really good vanilla with toppings? I can tell the difference between good vanilla and bad vanilla," Percy said.

"Mine's in October, so I'm safe. October 27th, to be precise. But um...your mom sounds kind of fantastic. Also more like Mrs. Weasley the more I hear, which is definitely a good thing." She giggled. "I always thought all the handmade sweaters she does at Christmas were adorable."
"I will keep my whipped cream plain, please! Coffee is just...yuck. But I feel like I know what you mean about a good vanilla versus a bad vanilla. I really love vanilla with hot fudge, if I'm doing toppings. Or maybe with fruit....and now I made myself crave icecream. I wonder if they have it in the freezer out there?"

Percy laughed, more to himself as he thought idea of the annual West family sweaters being handmade, "Oh these things are far from handmade, my mom's not exactly the crafty type but she tries really hard to pretend she is. These are custom ordered and one year we actually got leather jackets. She does work to get them designed though. She's like Molly Weasley except an Aussie and not a redhead and a lot more... extra. I'm pretty sure if I get married there will be some form of Percy gets married uniform she'll have us all wear for a week." he laughed again, but also cringed a little at how over the top that could get.
"You don't like coffee? I don't not like coffee but I prefer tea myself. I'll take a cuppa Earl Gray over a cappuccino any day." Percy said, "My best guess is that there's probably a good ice cream stock around here. It's tv, so I'm sure the producers expect at least a few broken hearts in this whole process." he said, half joking but that was also a very real thought.

Ooh, I didn't think of that... you're probably right! Hopefully no one needs it to ease a broken heart, though...Everyone here has been so sweet, I think they all deserve happiness."
Oh but about coffee: I really tried to like it. I bought a bunch of different flavored ones at coffee shops and everything but I just can't do it. I can't stand the taste!"

"I'll be honest, I prepared myself for the worst coming into this. I told my sister to have ice cream stocked in the fridge for when I get back for either a broken heart or a celebration," Percy said with a laugh, "Not that I'm that much of a skeptic, but I like to be well prepared and I like to think I'll be ok either way it goes and my cats will always love me."
"I think either way, I'll write some good songs about all of this." |
