Here we are, the big reveal. These two have fallen in love inside the pods, have proposed, and become engaged all without ever having seen one another!! Is love truly blind? So far so good, but will they make it to their wedding day?
Today they became engaged and will finally get to see one another for the first time.
The Scene
They each are waiting behind closed doors, dramatic music plays, nerves and excitement at an ultimate high when finally the doors slide open automatically at the same time.
Between them is a long room with a strip of red carpet that leads to the other door, the walls are lined with greenery, roses, and candles and to reach each other in the middle will take several long strides.

River was literally trembling with excitement and nerves as she stood in front of the doors. She couldn't be any more thrilled to be this close to actually seeing Penn--she was essentially planning to glue herself to his side and never let go. She'd explained to someone early on in the dates that what she was looking for was a home, someone who made her feel like she belonged there and would always be safe--and more than anything, someone she could trust. She knew she'd found that in Penn. She'd already been falling for him before the maze, but when he'd immediately respected her boundaries and been so kind to her about what she saw as one of her biggest mistakes, he'd tied her heart to his irrevocably. Even as happy as she was, though, she couldn't help the pit of anxiety bubbling in her stomach. What if it all went south? What if he thought she was ugly, or she had some habit that he couldn't stand? What if once they were living together he figured out that she was just an absolute mess? The ugly voice in the back of her head hurled garbage at her almost faster than she could keep up, but she managed to hold it back. She trusted Penn. She couldn't imagine that he would toss her aside because of her looks, or because of any stupid habits she might have, even if she did put her necklaces in her mouth more than she should, and make stupid noises when she was excited. She took a trembling breath and smoothed her sweaty palms down the font of her dress for the umpteenth time. She had picked one to bring that was her favorite color, not really thinking about the fact that it would a perfect match for her favorite flowers as well. When she'd left the date that morning, she'd also snagged one of the tiger lilies to wear behind her ear for the reveal. It made her feel like a fairy princess, although she probably wouldn't admit that out loud to anyone besides Penn. It was nice, to feel nice about herself. She'd put on minimal makeup, just the way she did every day, not wanting to overdo it. She wanted Penn to see her the way she really was. When the doors finally began to open, her knees shook and she pressed her cold fingers to her burning cheeks, but she couldn't help absolutely beaming anyway. She was ready.

Penn was sure he'd never been happier in his whole life. He thought he had been happy with Emma but he had never felt like this before and that feeling just blew him away. He stood behind the door, unable to stop smiling. He wasn't nervous. Not even one bit. He just couldn't wait to be with River, for real. The idea of actually seeing her was giving him all sorts of excited butterflies. He only hoped he wouldn't be a disappointment to her.
His hand rested in his pocket, holding onto the velvet box, his finger moving over the soft fabric thoughtfully. It had been an...interesting road leading up to this so far, but as hard as it has been at times, it had brought them to where they were now and he would never want to wish that away. He couldn't wait to be able to cherish River the way that she deserved.
He was also trying to keep from laughing at himself and just hoping she'd think he was funny and not just a total dorky idiot. But...she had called him her 'jedi knight' on several occasions. And...he had dressed up as Kylo Ren for comic-con once and... on a whim he'd brought the costume...so he wore it.
He was wearing a black outfit, complete with cape and had the blue light saber that she had just barely given him. With his hands down at his sides he held the saber at an angle across his body.
And as the door slid open he pressed the button on the light saber to time the woosh sound of the it with the opening door.

River was already moving forward before the doors had time to finish opening--she just couldn't help herself. Once she caught sight of Penn's outfit and realized what the sound was that she'd heard, she couldn't help giggling, so much that she almost doubled over. But she kept going, picking up speed as she practically ran to him. Boy was she glad that she'd worn flats.
She recognized who he was supposed to be right away, and made a mental note to ask if Kylo Ren was his favorite character.
The second she got to him she put her hands on his shoulders and stood on her tiptoes to kiss him lightly before the giggles took over again. "You are absolutely the most precious human being," she told him through another wave of laughter "Not only do you look fantastic, but I can't, she laughed even harder, cutting herself off. "I can't stop laughing. I'm not even nervous anymore. Gosh, I love you."

As he got his first glimpse of River his heart just melted and he was sure that he wouldn't be able to stop smiling for days. Her immediate laughter had him beaming as he moved towards her, his cape rustling behind him as he did so. He happily returned her kiss and was absolutely enamored by her smile and the sound of her laughter. She was...absolutely gorgeous. He was in awe of her.
"Well my Queen." He said, tossing his cape dramatically behind him with his free hand and getting onto one knee. "If I have chased away your nerves then I have done my duty." He said, laying the light saber ceremoniously at her feet, and lowering his head briefly to bow at her.
He then peeked back up at her from his position on the floor and took her hand if she let him, kissing her knuckles. "And I love you too, very very much." He said a bit more seriously, though still unable to stop smiling. "Too much?" He asked.

River was still giggling softly as he dramatically flipped his cape behind him and lay the lightsaber at her feet. She was patient enough to wait until he'd kissed her knuckles and made her heart do a little flip, but then she couldn't take it anymore--she dropped to her knees too and flung her arms around his neck--since she was quite a bit shorter she wound up in a silly little crouch to avoid yanking him down to her level, but she made do. The movement knocked the lily out from behind her ear and made her hair fly all in her face but she didn't even care. She was too focused on Penn to worry about anything else.
"Definitely not," she answered fiercely, kissing him firmly on the cheek. "You are absolutely perfect."
Now that she was actually hanging onto him--the one thought that had overwhelmed everything else as soon as he was within arm's reach--she had time to catch up and process what he looked like. He was so handsome! She hadn't really known what to think, before, but somehow she'd already had it in her head that he had dark hair and eyes--it just seemed to suit him, somehow. The reality though was...wow. So much wow. She hadn't realized that she'd set her standards pretty low a long time ago just because she didn't think much of herself, but she'd never even considered that she'd end up with someone she was this attracted to. Thinking about it, she eased herself all the way down onto her knees so she could look up at him.
"I can't even think straight. All I want to do is hang on to you for dear life," she confessed, grinning at him.

The movement surprised him a bit as she moved down suddenly to hug him but he wasn't at all complaining. He wrapped his arms around her, holding onto her tenderly. When she moved to look at him he just lost himself in her eyes. His hand gently moved to brush her hair away from her face, his fingers dragging from her forehead and down around her ear, just completely overwhelmed by her.
"You are so incredibly beautiful." He whispered lovingly to her. "More beautiful than I deserve." He said with a smile and a little chuckle. "I love you River, and I'll never let you go."
He reached into his pocket, yes he had one, removed the velvet ring box and opened it so that she could see the gemstone ring inside. He noticed it was very close to the color of her eyes, that was lucky. "Will you be my Queen, my bride, my wife?" He asked her, not able to take his eyes away from her.

River sighed happily, her eyes fluttering closed for a moment as he gently brushed her hair behind her ear, instinctively relaxing under his touch. She felt like she could stay in this moment forever.
His comment about her being more beautiful than he deserved made her face scrunch into a pout as she opened her eyes to give him a stern look. He absolutely did so deserve her, she was planning to argue, but his movement for his pocket distracted her. Her eyes widened and her hands flew to her mouth as she watched him. She had already said yes, and she would say it again without batting an eyelash, but somehow watching it happen was still awe-inspiring. The ring was gorgeous--she couldn't have done better herself, and it meant even more to know that he'd put such careful thought into following her wishes for it.
"Absolutely," She told him with a bright smile, although her eyes shone with tears. "There's just one thing you got wrong--you do so deserve every good thing. And it is my new mission as your queen to make you believe it." She swiped at her cheek with one hand as a tear spilled down it. "I love you so much, Penn."

"I know." He replied when she told him that loved him, then realizing that he was the star wars fan and just in case she didn't get the reference he continued. "I love you to the stars and back, River." He told her and leaned down to kiss her cheek.
He then offered her his hand. Should she take it, he'd stand up with her and then take the ring from the box and slip it on her finger. Looking at it there on her hand made his heart swell. He was engaged to this stunning woman. He couldn't stop himself anymore as he wrapped on arm around her, and the other moved to the side of her face, his fingers behind her ear and his thumbs softly in front of it and he leaned down to kiss her.

River did catch the reference, giving him a knowing smile as he continued. It made her proud that he was comfortable enough with her to do all this--dressing up and making references, even his little dramatic speeches. To her, that meant he trusted her enough to be himself, which was all she wanted.
More tears ran down her cheeks as he slid the ring onto her finger, but her smile didn't fade even a little--she shone like a small sun, practically radiating love and joy.
"I love you as big as the ever expanding universe--more and more every second," she replied cheekily.
When he pulled her into a kiss, she sighed happily, hands coming up to hold the collar of his cape to stead herself. It was like being in a perfect dream, and she couldn't help being a little bit giddy and light headed as she practically melted into his arms.
"This is better than anything I could have even dreamed of. You are so sweet, and handsome, and wonderful...I can hardly believe you're mine."

Damn, could she be any more perfect? "I don't know how I possibly got lucky enough to find a girl to not only love me but to put up with my nerd side too." He said with a little adoring chuckle. "You're perfect, River, just perfect." He said.
He kissed her again, deepening it a little more this time, losing himself in her while being ever aware to not push her too far, too fast. Especially considering they were still being filmed and she didn't need the added pressure to 'perform'.
He broke the kiss and looked down at her, his heart swelling. "Gah! I'm just so happy!" He exclaimed, unable to keep it all in. He took her face gently in his hands, leaning down to meet her face to face, his gaze just moving over every inch of her features. "You...are just...so gorgeous...and amazing...and everything...I could...ever...dream...of." He said, placing little pecks on various places of her face between each pause; her cheeks, forehead, nose, chin, jaw, lips, eyebrows...

River wasn't even aware of the cameras--the second she'd had the chance to hold onto him again, everything else had ceased to exist. The embarrassment of realizing she'd made out with her fiance on television might catch up to her later when she had a chance to sit still, but for now, she was entirely in the moment.
She was more than happy to have Penn deepen their kiss--if she were to be honest with herself, a part of her was already eager for them to be at the resort, where they could have some privacy for a little more than kissing. She may have had some poor experiences in the past, but she had zero fear for anything that Penn might do. He'd more than demonstrated that he respected her boundaries. No, the only person she thought might muck things up was herself. She had a distinct fear that she would ask too much of him, somehow.
She was still half-dazed when he broke the kiss, and she smiled dreamily at him as he exclaimed about how happy he was. She burst into giggles, though, when he began pressing kisses all over her face, and her cheeks turned bright red. Finally, she couldn't handle it anymore and she buried her blushing face in his shoulder. "You're too sweet, I can't take it." She mumbled into his cape and stayed there, too flustered to do anything else.
Aaaaaand there was the pause needed for her to remember there were cameras. She startled upright, her eyes wide and her face redder than ever. "Oh my god, we're on camera." She blurted out, horrified. "I completely forgot. We were making out on the floor and we're on camera!"

Yep, he definitely wanted more of this. He was completely smitten by this woman. Or 'whipped' as the kids say. Do the kids still say that? He had no idea.
He loved the way she buried her face into his shoulder, he immediately imagined them together on the balcony and again was hit with the overwhelming feeling that this was right.
He laughed softly as her realization. "Oh don't worry, this is barely making out." He said, lightly teasing. "Come on." He whispered in her ear. "Let's go."
He stepped briefly away, bending to pick up the light saber and offering his arm as he bowed his head to her. "Your Majesty."

Barely making out?! She responded with a wordless noise of protest, torn between mortification and attraction in a way her brain refused to process. She was going to argue as soon as she could think what to say, until he moved to whisper in her ear.
Oh wow. She felt that whisper in her core. Just like that he had her entire focus again, and she hurried to her feet to take his hand. As they began to leave, she looked up at him with amazement, taking another moment to process this wonderful man she had found.
He really did look handsome in his costume, like the tragic anti-hero every woman was weak to. But she knew better; he was not a threatening person. He was the kindest, most considerate man she had ever met. He was a giant nerd, literally and figuratively. He wasn't afraid to cry when it was needed. And despite all the softness, or maybe because of it, he was still sexy as hell, and having him whisper in her ear sent her mind spiraling into activities that were definitely not meant for TV. She felt so blessed.
Hey, Penn?" she said softly as they walked towards the exit, waiting for him to glance at her before she'd continue, "I love you."

Penn was walking on air, surely this must be a dream. How could this possibly be real? He was completely blow away by all of this, but in the best way possible.
He looked down at her when she questioned him, his brow cocked curiously but at her words he smiled, the action lighting up his face. "I love you too, River." He said as they left the room together.
