You arrived yesterday and met all of your suite mates. Today is your first day of dates! This morning your phones were all taken from you and will be returned either when you go home or at the start of stage 3! No social media, no contact with the outside world, just a chance for you to focus on your connections with other people here. (You were told this would be the case when you first signed up to be a participant)
The first round of dates will be relatively quick. You'll get a chance to meet all the ladies/gents. The first dates will last about 10-20 minutes (IC) and the purpose is a short little getting to know you.
Here are some topics you might consider talking about (though it's TOTALLY up to you): General lifestyle (partier/works a lot/spends most time at home alone) Occupation Hopes for this event/what you're looking for in a spouse Hobbies/Passions
RULES - Remember to keep physical descriptions out of your conversations. - Each person gets only 10 posts in this thread! - Posts are limited to 150 words! The idea is to give your characters a little taste but leave them wanting MORE!
Will you start to make a connection today? Let's find out!
This date is for Lainey Yurkovich & Hugh Pennington!
You enter the pods, one person on each side in a soundproofed room. This allows you to feel totally secluded and private from the other participants who may be near you. This is your chance to get a feel for the women/men who are here and who you might be interested in continuing to get to know!

Hugh entered the room, getting a look around the space for a moment, waiting to hear a sound from the other side before speaking up. "Uh, hey there." He said a little awkwardly. "I'm Hugh... Pennington. I mostly go by Penn." He'd wait for the woman to return with her name before continuing. "So, uh, What is it that you do for work?" He stumbled, getting used to the idea of this kind of dating. Lainey Yurkovich

"Hi Penn! I'm Elaine Yurkovitch, but I go by Lainey." Lainey introduced herself once she heard Penn. "I'm a Social Media Content Creator. Pretty much my day is spent living in my dungeon making motion graphics or logos for their business, and helping them gain a presence on social media." She explained. "What is that you do Penn?"

"Lainey, that's a cool name." He said with a genuine smile in his voice. "I wouldn't have guessed that it wasn't your given name." He told her.
"Oh no way, that's really awesome! I'm a software developer so I definitely understand that whole 'living in my dungeon' thing." He said. "Lots of late nights, though that's mostly by choice. I manage my own team at the company I work for. So what about for fun? What do you do in your free time?"

"Finally someone who gets it!" She laughed. "Normally I say Dungeon and people instantly jump to ya know...That type of dungeon." She laughed again. "I"m mostly freelance." She added. "I like to do just about anything. A lot of people are surprised I'm not some sort of fitness instructor. I go to the gym a lot, go running, hiking, walking my dog. I like taking my camera out and about, a good taco truck." She said. "What about you? What do you do outside your dungeon?"

Penn laughed brightly as she talked about the dungeon. "A lot of the same actually, I like walks and hikes, not so much going to the gym myself. I have two tiny dogs, I like taking them on walks, even if they do try to trip me up half the time. I like things like Frisbee golf, tennis, racquetball on occasion. Not that I'm particularly talented at any of them." He said with a little chuckle.
"Sometimes I'll take a book or a game to the dog park and let the dogs run around while I relax. What kind of dog do you have?" He asked.

“Those actually sound pretty fun! I don’t think I’ve ever been frisbee golfing.” She said. “Aaaaw!!! You’re gonna have to tell me all about your babies. If I could I’d be like a typical pupper mom and show you the bazillion photos on my phone,” she laughed.
“Dug is a golden retriever fondly named after Dug from Up. If you ever meet him you will see the name was a smart choice.” She giggled. “What about your kids? What type of dogs are they? You say little so are we talking chihuahua size or springer spaniel?”

"Oh man, that sounds great! I wish we could swap pup photos!" He said. "Dug sounds awesome though! I wish I could meet him. My dogs are Luke and Han, they are both mutts, not exactly sure what they are but I think they both have some chihuahua in them, Luke is more chihuahua size and Han is a just a little bigger. They're best buds for the most part but they definitely take terms dominating the other. Han protects his sleeping spot and Luke protects his food dish." He said with a little laugh.
"So have you always lived in San Diego then?" He asked.

"Dug is a spoiled brat." She laughed. "Also, are they perchance named after Luke Skywalker and Han Solo? Because if soooooooo, all my brother's nerdiness has clearly prepared me for this day, and I know who you are talking about." She laughed.
"Pretty much yeah! My parents are originally from the east coast. Boston specifically. They ended up falling in love and their families disapproved because mom comes from an Irish-Catholic family, and Dad was Jewish. Both families were die-hards, so you can imagine the strain on getting one to convert. So they ended up saying fu-" She paused. "Screw it," She laughed. "And moved to the west coast after eloping. Popped four kids out. We lived outside of San Diego for a while because it was cheaper, but once I started school I moved here fully."
"What about you?"

Penn laughed. "Yes, yes, they are indeed named after Star Wars characters. So there is my nerd coming out."
He chuckled as she censored her language while she told her story. "Wow, is quite the intense love story, like Romeo and Juliet. I'm glad it didn't end in their demise." He joked. "And I'm not going to judge you for cursing by the way." He added.
"Actually I'm from Montana. Our family struggled a lot financially growing up, my mom... is complicated. She disappeared a few times on us, sometimes for quite a while but she always ended up coming back. When my grandfather died my dad inherited his farm so we essentially became farmers. Things were a little easier after that actually. But I moved here for school and never left." He explained.

"Woo! Score one for Lainey, See Lyle, I do listen." She laughed. "I am too, but it...kind of did? But we'll get to the tragic love story of my parents another time." She said. "Well that's a fucking relief, because I'm very used to it being just Dug and I, and he has no issues with mama swearing." She laughed.
"Your mom sounds like my dad. I understand that feeling. I really do." She sympathized. "Farm boy huh? You get Prince's Bride reference's often?" She asked curiously, with a hint of flirty. "Are you still close to your family despite being so far away?"

Penn laughed as she cursed. "Actually no, not as many references as one would expect...or hope. Bit of a let down really." he said jokingly.
"Ya, I'm still pretty close to them. I try to get out there and see them on a fairly regular basis. I Facetime with my nieces pretty regularly. I think I still manage to be the 'cool uncle' without actually being there as often as I might like." He said. "Are you close with your family?" He asked.

"That is so SAD!" She cried. "A crying shame really." She said.
"Aaaw! How old are your nieces? I became an aunt for the first time six months ago, so I have a nephew." She said. "My siblings are pretty much my best friends. I'm closest with my brother just because we're only a year apart, but we're all really close. We sort of banded together when we struggled financially for a time." She explained. "They're all my nerds, and I protect them fiercely." She laughed. "Which is funny because I'm the shortest out of all of us and the middle child." She said.
