You arrived yesterday and met all of your suite mates. Today is your first day of dates! This morning your phones were all taken from you and will be returned either when you go home or at the start of stage 3! No social media, no contact with the outside world, just a chance for you to focus on your connections with other people here. (You were told this would be the case when you first signed up to be a participant)
The first round of dates will be relatively quick. You'll get a chance to meet all the ladies/gents. The first dates will last about 10-20 minutes (IC) and the purpose is a short little getting to know you.
Here are some topics you might consider talking about (though it's TOTALLY up to you):
General lifestyle (partier/works a lot/spends most time at home alone)
Occupation
Hopes for this event/what you're looking for in a spouse
Hobbies/Passions

"Oh wow this is so cool!" Valeria blurted out when she entered the pod. She laughed at herself.
"This is one hell of a first date isn't it? Look at all the chocolate!" There was a pause as Valeria stocked up on a handful of chocolate before settling onto the couch. "I'm Valeria and I'm going to start with the fact that I'm going to be super real with you and I'm not going to lie that I'm about to be stuffing my face mid-first date."

Penn released a laugh at the woman's honesty as she spoke, taking his own look around the room before sitting down. "Honesty is very important." He said, a smile in his tone.
"It's nice to meet you, Valeria. I'm Penn. Well, Hugh Pennington, but almost everyone calls me Penn." There was a small pause. "So, you clearly like chocolate. What else do you like? To eat, to do, and all the above." He knew they didn't have long for the first date.

"Loaded question much!" Valeria said in mock accusation, "Just kidding... I think." She paused for a moment to think. "Ummm I love snowboarding, desserts obviously. I love beer enough to more or less dedicate my life to it." Valeria laughed, it was warm and authentic sound. "As a brewmaster at my brewery, not as an alcoholic."

Hugh laughed again, she was funny. "Gotta take advantage of the little time we have right?" He replied. "I definitely have a sweet tooth myself." He told her. "Give me all the sugar." He chuckled.
"A brewmaster, that's really cool. I've never met anyone in that field before. Well, I'm a software developer, managing my own team. I like all things technology...thankfully, or my job would be rather miserable. I'm, um, a fan of dogs and have two of my own. I'm not great at sports but I like being outside...I throw a mean frisbee." He said with another small laugh.

Valeria had been munching on the chocolate as Hugh spoke. She swallowed. "Very cool! I've never had a dog but I'd like one. I want a big dog that will go do stuff with me though, not like a little purse dog. I don't even like carrying a purse to begin with." Valeria said. "If you've been to a brewery taproom you've probably met a brewmaster but didn't know. We're like ninjas or something. What's your favorite dessert? And more importantly do you know how to make it?"

Penn chuckled a little nervously. "Both my dogs are tiny." He admitted. "But to be fair, they both came to me by chance." He said with an affection smile in his voice. "Oh man, that's a tough question. I like basically everything. I guess...donuts or strawberry shortcake would be near the top of the list. And I certainly don't know how to make them." He replied.
"I don't know much about brewing or beers to be honest. I mostly just drink what's around. It'd be interesting to hear more about it. What got you interested in it?"

First date and her foot was already in her mouth. "Well I'm sure they can still catch a frisbee or something right?" Valeria said with a sheepish chuckle. "I got my degree in business at CU-Boulder and decided that I didn't want an office job. So in college I was working at a taproom and got to apprentice. When I graduated, my brother and I moved back to San Diego and decided to try it out ourselves."
"So how'd you get into software? What type do you design?"

"That's awesome, it's cool that you kind of came into it by chance at first." he replied. "I've done a variety of work in the past including creating some apps and some boring systems for accounting, but right now the team I manage is mostly involved in gaming. I work with some of the more advanced RPGs and MMOs mostly. It can be surprisingly stressful for being a job revolving around playing." He said with a little chuckle.
"So you work with your brother. You must be close to your family? Any other siblings?" He asked.

"Ok so this is going to be super weird, but I've never played an Xbox or an MMO or anything before. I'm pretty good at Words with Friends though." Valeria said with a laugh. "My brother is a bit more into the gaming stuff though, he likes... I think it's called Eldest Scroll or something like that." She was trying, really hard.
Now to change the subject to something she actually knew something about.
"Yeah It's just me, my brother, and my mom. My dad passed away when I was really little and my mom had to work a lot so it was mostly just me and my twin."

"It's not weird." Penn said encouragingly. "A lot of people haven't. Eldest Scroll is a good one." He said.
"I'm sorry to hear about your dad. That must have been hard for all of you. My family is all back in Montana where I grew up. I have an older brother who is married now with 2 kids and a younger sister. I don't have the best relationship with my brother, but my nieces are pretty awesome." He explained.
"Do you have a lot of friends you get together with? What do you like to do with them?"

"I've always wanted to go to Montana! I just really love mountains, my brother lives next door to me and my mom lives less than an hour away so we're all literally close" Valeria said, "Yeah kinda. We've only been back in San Diego for a couple years and we're pretty busy. Usually our friends come hang out in the back of our brewery. Once we get a taproom going it'll probably be the hangout spot. My friends and I also like going hiking and doing outdoorsy stuff."

"Oh ya, that totally makes sense. Sounds like the perfect place to hang out! Ya, Montana is awesome. I do miss it sometimes but I go back and visit on a regular basis so it helps scratch the itch."
He paused, making a turn in the conversation. "You asked if I knew how to make my favorite dessert? Do you like to cook? Or bake?" He asked.

"Ok so I'm gonna come out and admit that the reason I ask was because I was hoping you'd be able to bake those things because I couldn't bake to save my life, unless I was like baking under threat and had to like kills someone with it." Valeria admitted with a chuckle. "I'm guessing the hiking in Montana must be really beautiful. Do you like cold weather?

Penn chuckled with her. "Well, I'm sorry I can't help you out there. I can pull together some mean mac n cheese but my cooking skills are limited to basic boxed dinners. I don't starve, I can tell you that." He said with another chuckle.
"I do like the cold weather, ya. I miss the snow sometimes. I do like the warmth here though. I'm not exactly a beach person. I do like the chill that comes off of the ocean at night, it's calming. What about you? Do you run hot or cold?"

Valeria laughed, "Let's just say I'm on a first name basis with the ladies at my local bakery because I need my pastry fix at least once a week." That was probably one of the most serious things she said all day. "Hands down, I love the cold. I'm so not a hot weather person and heatstroke sounds like one of the worst ways to die. I seriously escape to the mountains as much as I can."

"All very good things to want, it's definitely great that you knew what you wanted before coming in here, in my opinion anyway." He said.
"I hope to find a woman who can be loyal, who can trust me, and who can have the strength to stick by me when things get hard. I would love a woman who is her own individual and doesn't rely on me for every little thing, but whose individuality strengthens our relationship rather than putting a barrier between us. My last serious relationship, she cheated on me during a time when I was really busy with finishing my Masters and I couldn't give her as much attention as she felt she needed. I just needed...time and...I'm not saying their wasn't any fault on my part, I'm sure I could have tried harder if I knew that it was so hard for her."

"I don't get cheating, really I don't. Like I think if someone doesn't want to be with someone or needs something different, they should just break up. Like why bother sneaking around and stuff?" Valeria declared, "Or maybe I'm just the really blunt type. Life is too short to lie and be stuck in something unhappy like that I think. I don't think it was your fault, she was the one that made a decision to be an asshole."
